Happy Monday!

First, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who responded to my post last week. I appreciate the encouragement and welcome back! 2017 is going to be a fantastic year 🙂

I thought I would catch up with a bit of a Lately post and share whats been going on in my life. 2016 is still a blur. It was a fantastic year, but it was a crazy year.

Chicago: We are loving our new city. Leaving ATL was very hard for me, but I absolutely feel like Chicago is the right city for us. I love walking every where (bye bye car!) and I don’t miss the ATL traffic one bit. We really enjoy how many stores, restaurants, and coffeeshops are right outside our door. I walk 2 blocks to the train each morning and pass 3 coffee shops on the way! We’ve started making friends and its been a good few months.

The Weather: So thats been an adjustment. For those who don’t know, I grew up in Wisconsin and went to college in Chicago. The winter weather isn’t my favorite, but I’m used to it. Poor AR though. This is his first winter in the north and its a bit of a shock. Right before Christmas we had several days with a windchill around -25*. Ouch. I’m living in my snow boots right now and wearing long underwear under my clothes when I go to work.

Our Apartment: Y’all – I love our space. It is still coming together, but we’ve made some furniture purchases and settled on some art. I can’t wait to share a full post on it soon! We hosted our first party in the home right before Christmas and it was nice to finally feel that settled. We still need a new living room rug, and our office space needs some love. But we are well on our way!

My job: I told AR the other day that I feel like I’ve been 3 different people during our relationship. I was a first grade teacher in Texas when we met. A few years later, I was a law student in Atlanta. Now, I am a lawyer in Chicago.

I really like my job and enjoy the people I work with. Its only been a few months, so I am still figuring everything out, but its good. I think people tell a lot of horror stories about Big Law, but my experience has been positive. I get to work around 8:30 most mornings and am home for dinner most nights.

The hardest part has been transitioning from my less structured life to my very structured life now. I spent the last 3 years being able to run to Target at 2pm if I wanted to; I could unload the dishwasher in the afternoon or throw a load of laundry in the wash. Trying to adjust to my new schedule is a process.

Oh Hey, 2017

Hey. Long time no chat.

I feel kind of like that terrible friend who ghosts on you for 3 months and then suddenly shows back up. My extended break wasn’t planned…. it just happened. And I can make a few guesses on why: I’m busy exploring a new city (hello Chicago!), I’m still trying to juggle this transition from student to lawyer, and I’m not sure what blogging looks like for me in the future.

I think last year my blog (and I) got a little lost. So much about blogging has become about making it a career. And no judgement on that – thats awesome. But I have a career. Blogging for me is an escape and a hobby, but I don’t plan to use it to make an income (and let’s be honest, that would likely be a failed venture for me 😉 ). I’m not necessarily concerned with amassing a significant following. I’m happy just loving my little corner of the internet.

So here we are – 2017. I’m making a goal to jump back into the part of blogging I love. Without sponsored content or crazy affiliated links. Just little bits of my life and city. Favorite recipes. Race recaps. Fun finds.

So thanks for reading and thanks for the break.

Oh Monday.

Last week was an adjustment. I’ve gone from being totally unscheduled for almost 10 weeks, to back in a routine. I know, y’all are all laughing at me because I was so fortunate to have that time off, so no one feels bad for me. I get it. But it is hard to get back in a routine! I can’t run errands during the day anymore, or do little chores. Trying to learn how to manage my time again will take a few weeks, I think.

By Friday night, I was just exhausted. I went to a work event for a bit,walked home, and was done for the night. I cooked dinner, turned out HGTV, and was in bed by 11. I tried to make up for it on Saturday & Sunday though!


|Rainy Weekend| Our weather was pretty dreary most of the weekend, to be honest. I snapped this on my run Saturday morning. By afternoon, it cleared up and was really nice though. The rain and storms did make for great sleeping weather though – I slept 8-9 hours a night, which was wonderful. I am still getting used to the noise of the city, so some extra sleep is always welcomed.


|Sunday Brunch| I wen to brunch and shopping with a friend Saturday. We went to The Hampton Social (which was amazing), where they had live music and open windows. It was beautiful.


We were seated in the apparently enviable spot under the “Rose all day” sign, so our entire meal, people took photos. Some people even asked us to move. I highly recommend the food, but maybe don’t sit under the sign. 😉

|Dinner at Perennial Variant| My dear friend Jax and I went to dinner at Perennial Variant in Lincoln Park on Saturday night. We had some awesome cocktails, and a bunch of appetizers, and then skipped the main course and went to dessert. Their chai gelato was so yummy.


|Gym Tours| I ran errands, cleaned the apartment, meal prepped/planned, and did laundry on Sunday. I went to visit a few gyms also, but I still haven’t joined anything. Its really hard to find the right place! Right now I am just running outside and going to classes at Core Power Yoga, but I really want a gym with good classes, ideally with two locations – one by my apartment, and one by work. Any recommendations??

|Meal Prep| I did some major meal prepping on Sunday after going to Whole Foods, and a Target date with one of my friends. I roasted peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, broccoli, and sweet potatoes. I also made a massive pot of turkey chili for dinner tonight and lunches during the week.  While the chili was cooking, I prepped all my fruits and veggies for the week. Cheers to an easier eating week because I prepared!!

October Goals

I’m trying to get back into the habit of setting monthly goals/intentions, now that my life has more of a routine. Fall seems like a nice time to set goals, doesn’t it? Below are my goals for the month – I’d love to hear yours!

  • take a daily walk – morning or night
  • get together with someone new once a week (making friends in a new city is hard)
  • attend a Chicago Junior League event
  • ease back into running with 2-3 runs a week
  • lay off the sugar in preparation for the holidays 😉
  • take a break from shopping to save up for some winter purchases in November
